Joseph J. (Sakowski) Gadbaw,  died at home in Traverse City, MI on Feb. 21, 2010 after a long illness.  Joe was the last survivor of Joseph Sakowski’s first of three families generated through three marriages;  John, Jean, Peter (and infant Helen) had pre-deceased Joe. ( More Sakowski family detail is posted in the production “The Legacy of Joseph Sakowski” shown in this web page.)

Known as Dr. Joe, he practiced family medicine in Michigan and dedicated his career to the care for the elderly.  In 1993, his lifetime of medical practice was honored by the American College of Physicians in naming him a Laureate.

Joe’s  greatest passions included golf, wood carving and fly fishing.  He is survived by his wife Ann, eight children, twenty grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

On June 11, 2009 eight persons from the Sakowski Clan boarded the cruise ship Celebrity Millenium in Vancouver to start a magnificent twelve day cruise/tour of Alaska’s Inside Passage and mainland. The original intent of the event was to promote a mini family reunion but for those participating it evolved mainly into an anniversary and birthday celebration….. Ed and Gerry – 60 years, Jerry and Kathy – 50 years, George and Mannya – 30 years and Chet Haltom’s 27th birthday.  Joseph Lesko, our eighth participant, happily celebrated just being with family.  One of the many highlights was being able to see Mt. McKinley in it’s full glory.  The photo shows the happy group after a formal dinner on the ship.

Creating a Post (including Pictures)

Here is a quick overview of how to post text and pictures to SakowskiFamily.com I would encourage everyone to play around a bit and see how things work. The best way to learn is by trying things out.

When you Log In, go to the Write tab (should be right next to “Dashboard” at the top of the page, just under “The Sakowski Family”)

Enter a Title in the “Title” field

Enter any information you wish in the editor just beneath the word “Post”. This editor provides very basic edit capabilities.

To add a picture to your post, use the “Upload” functionality just beneath the “Post” editor. You should see two tabs, one saying “Upload” and one saying “Browse All”. One thing about pictures is that once pictures are uploaded anyone can use them in their posts – i.e. your pictures are not private and are available to anyone on the system with “Author” privileges. This is intentional but is something to be aware of.

You will see several fields under “Upload” – “File”, “Title”, and “Description”. To upload a picture, click on the “Browse” button next to “File”. Browse to the picture you want to upload on your computer, select it, and click OK. Enter a title and description for the picture, and click “Upload”. (You can ignore the “Resize image” and “Create a thumbnail” options that appear to the right. The defaults should be appropriate here.)

Once you have uploaded a picture, you should see the picture and a button labeled “Send to editor”. Click this button to insert the image into your post. Once the image is inserted in your post, you can drag it around just like using a word processor. You can insert multiple images by repeating these steps.

Please feel free to post any questions you have regarding this process in the comments and I’ll address them as best I can.

A second welcome to The Sakowski Family web site.  My grandson Aaron has established a domain for our Sakowski family to use to keep in touch with one another.  This may be old hat for some or a new experience for others.  Let’s try it and have fun.  This medium, in addition to e-mails, should assist each of us to keep alive the spirit generated by our 2007 reunion.  Please register and enjoy the site.

My vision for this site is for everyone in the Sakowski family to be able to post news and photos to share with other family members. There are a couple of steps involved to do this:

  • Click the “Register” link at the right. You will be sent an e-mail with a password.  You will be able to change (simplify) your password the first time you login.  Since numberswiki.com

the assigned password will be a number so rather than memorize it you may change it to a nickname instead.

  • Once you have completed registration, you can comment on any existing posts on the site. This allows you to engage in discussions with anyone else registered for the site.
  • You will see a “Write” link when you log in. You can use this link to create posts which will be reviewed and posted periodically.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the Sakowski family page. There is a lot you can do here, but you should start by signing up for an account. Once you have signed up, you can comment on entries, and if you are lucky (i.e. you send me or my Grandpa Ed an e-mail asking for contributor, or author status) you can post entries also. Entries more info

can be a combination of text and pictures:

Under the Sequoia

The Rocket Car

Isabella and Dad

The Girls…

Enjoy!
